The use of plastic materials has become a natural occurrence in Iraq, and the amount of plastic materials used by Iraqis in the past twenty years has been staggering. Plastic materials have contributed to increased environmental pollution and the exacerbation of climate change due to their direct role in air pollution and increased greenhouse gas emissions.
The Civil Society Services Center in Erbil organized a roundtable discussion with a group of local organizations working in the field of civil society on “Mitigation plan of Plastic Use.” The discussions included the impact of these materials on the environment and their significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and pollution of the air and the environment. It also addressed how civil society can contribute to developing an awareness plan to reduce the use of plastic materials and promote alternative options.
