Roundtable on “Climate Change” for a group of local organizations and representatives of the Ministry of Environment in Basra

  • Climate change in Iraq is resulting in impacts that are making Iraq’s environment, security, politics, and economic challenges worse. Rising temperatures, severe drought, reduced rainfall, desertification, salinization, and increased prevalence of dust storms have undermined Iraq’s agricultural sector.

  • As an essential part of developing the capacity of local NGOs in Iraq, the Civil Society Services Center in Basra organized a roundtable on “Climate Change” in which representatives of a group of organizations from Basra Governorate participated. The discussion included environmental protection law, improving the environment, protecting it from pollution, plastics and fossil energy use, as well as increasing green spaces and paying more attention to the environment.

  • The #UPP works with Al Mesalla to empower local CSOs in Iraq through TATWEER project funded by the European Union and in partnership with local NGOs (Alnajah Center for Training&Development in Basra and Shakoufyan Organization in Anbar).
